What Are Receiving Warehouses?
This is probably the most elusive part of the entire design process...because you know the clients aren't keeping heaps of boxes stacked in their garage! (also, yikes...there is SO much going on in a construction site to trust all the precious new furniture not to get ruined and at least one of the hundreds of boxes laying around not to get lost).
So….
Where does all the furniture stay while the house is under construction?
How does that “big reveal” TV moment happen all at once?
Well, we’ve got the low down for ya:
A receiving warehouse is a third party facility that receives and stores all the furniture and accessories we order for a project.
Most of our suppliers ship via freight (i.e. not UPS or FedEx), which requires the facility to have a receiving dock in order to deliver the package. And we don’t suspect you have one of those 😉
But the best part...
The receiving warehouse will inspect the items upon receipt, help us handle any defects or damages with the supplier, re-wrap them for storage, and deliver on install day.
They even dispose of the HEAPS of boxes and wrapping that come with.
Can I forgo using this service to save some money?
On top of a lot of vendors using freight lines that require a receiving dock to deliver the items, there are also other implications of not using one... i.e. having to rely on you to be home to receive and inspect items, assemble them yourself, and safely store it for months.
