Why We Don’t Prefer Chantily Lace (gasp!) + Our Favorite White Paints

Before the Chantily Lace fan club starts hating…we do still use Chantily Lace - it can be a great white! I actually have it in one of the rooms in my home. But it just has to work in the right house with the right lighting, and using the right hues for flooring, furniture, and finishes.

Basically…here at Sentenac House, we are all about warmth! And wall color plays a huge role in warmth.

Unfortunately, Chantily Lace can be unpredictable sometimes and pull very cool, feeling sterile 😞

And we don’t want our client’s spaces to feel like a surgery room 🙅🏽‍♀️

We’ve also found that because it’s so light (it has a super high LRV - Light Reflective Value), it ends up needing 3 or more coats! Even though Benjamin Moore paint is one of the best quality formulas out there.

Moral of the story: don’t toss out Chantily Lace altogether…test a bunch of whites and decide what you feel is best for your space.

Look at it on EVERY wall of the space and at every time of day. They will look like completely different colors on each wall and at different times of day…and you might find that one wall makes the color pull too blue/yellow etc.

Here are some of our Chantily Lace alternatives for a warmer white:

  • Benjamin Moore Simply White

  • Benjamin Moore White Dove

  • Benjamin Moore Cloud White

  • Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee

  • Dunn Edwards Warm White

  • Sherwin Williams Alabaster
