The Importance of Using Elevation Drawings in Construction
See all these notes on the image below? These are important parts of the design that I KNOW will come up during construction. And I don’t want a million calls the day of installation! Also, trades aren’t mind readers! What goes on your head is 99% not what they are thinking, so the more detail you provide upfront…the less you’ll be upset about when it’s fully installed.
Some more reasons why these details are SUPER important:
Game-time decisions are always hasty. When you make these decisions beforehand, the design can be very well thought out.
Planning gives you more options. If you want something custom, ya gotta plan! During construction, you might get an idea but it’s too late. When it’s well-thought out well in advance, you’re able to get your dream look.
Last minute decisions can be expensive. Doing things at the last hour will likely cost you more time and money than if you planned in advance. You’ll find yourself paying a premium for labor, materials, or customizations that weren’t part of the original bid. Plus, unplanned changes can disrupt the entire timeline, delaying other trades from completing their work.
It prevents you from either making costly mistakes (having to pay to redo something), or not getting the end result you wanted because you had to settle for what the trade thought you wanted!
