Checkerboard vs Harlequin Floors

You’ve probably been seeing checked flooring become more and more common lately, and most use the term “checkerboard” for it. However although they are SUPER similar, there is a very distinct difference between checkerboard and harlequin.

Here it is in a nutshell:

Checkerboard Flooring

Checkerboard refers to when the tiles are laid out in a straight pattern like a chess or checkers board. Pay attention to the sizing of the tiles when laid this way, as it can easily look retro or like a diner!

Harlequin Flooring

The word harlequin refers to the mute character in pantomime...you know, those jesters from the Renaissance period in a diamond-patterned costume? That period is where the floors also emerged from!
